MILLIONS OF LITTLE LIGHTS IN THE TREES

In the sixth book of the series, “A Breath of Snow and Ash” there is a scene that left me with feelings of melancholy and a nostalgic happiness. 

Brianna has a heartfelt conversation with Jamie on her decision to return to the 18th century.  She says, “Jemmy won’t get to go to Disneyland,  but he’ll have that.  A family that laughs, and millions of little lights in the trees.” She’s referring to the special place in time she’s chosen to live out the rest of her days in- one abundant in fireflies at nighttime, simple joys, and the love of her family she places above all else.

It just reminded me that it’s about this little spaces of time we create and seemingly encapsulate these intense feelings of happiness.  I think it made me a little sad, because I didn’t realize until I was an adult how magical childhood can be made by simply being around those who love you.  And I think for Brianna, since she wasn’t able to have that with Jamie as a child, she chooses to make up for that lost time as an adult.

Millions is a soft blue green sage that is reminiscent of a lamb’s ear.  I wanted to capture the glow we see in the summer through the trees that are illuminated by the moon, fireflies, or a soft rustling fire.
