Happiness Is Where You Are
I know Chief Tui, Moana’s father, only wanted her to stay on the island because he loved her so much. But as is the case for most humans- giving restrictions only makes us want it that much more. And perhaps that was her father’s purpose in her destiny- to make her realize what she really wanted from a young age.
He sings:
“Our people will need a chief
And there you are
There comes a day
When you’re gonna look around
And realize happiness is where you are”
I don’t think the father intended for this to have a double meaning, but I am fascinated by the fact that Moana does fulfill what he wants her to. She will be the chief and does in fact find happiness where SHE is, not where he wants her to be.
“Happiness Is Where You Are” is a blue green seaglass and almost shimmers in sunlight. While I pulled inspiration from the overhead beach shots of baby Moana, this colorway also captures the shores Moana travels to away from Motenui.
